Advocating Reproductive Choices (ARC) is a coalition of like-minded civil society organisations and individuals working in the
field of sexual and reproductive health. Initiated in 2005, ARC aims to address the unmet need for contraception and expand
contraceptive choices for the Indian population by promoting and making available at affordable prices safe, effective and high
quality contraceptives in the public and private health service delivery systems.
Our Mission
To create an enabling environment for making a range of effective and safe methods of contraceptive options available to men
and women, suitable to them individually and as a couple, during their different reproductive phases so as to improve maternal
health.
The need for ARC coalition
India has a huge unmet need for contraception -- Over 44
million people (16.3 million for spacing and 25.5 million for
limiting (DLHS -3). With a significantly large population in the
reproductive age, affordability and easy availability of
contraceptives is imperative.
Despite some progress, India’s maternal and child health
needs further improvement. Contraceptives save lives by
preventing unwanted and risky pregnancies helping couples
to plan and space children, resulting in better maternal and
child health.
Our Work
We work with –
· Government, Central and State levels for improving the
quality of care of family planning services and expanding
the basket of contraceptive choices
· Policy makers and Influencers
· Most densely populated states of Rajasthan, Uttar
Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand
Who is eligible? If your organisation:
· Focuses on:
o Sexual and Reproductive Health
o Family planning
· Engages in academics, research and evaluation, training and
advocacy in the area of public health
· Engages in multi-disciplinary activities with a strong focus
on education and awareness-building on Family Planning/
Maternal Health/Population Education
· Works for the benefit of the under-privileged.
